Combining Evidence with Best Practice
For health practitioners, educators and students The growth of
complementary medicine (CM) in the last 10 years has been accelerating
worldwide. In Australia, the United States and Great Britain up to 50%
of the population uses CM regularly. In Australia we spend more on CM
products than we spend on out of pocket contributions for
pharmaceuticals. In the United States demand for and expenditure on CM
has doubled in the years 1990-2000.
Despite this, mainstream education in the health sciences contains
very limited content about complementary medicines. ACCMER is putting
together a series of forums to provide an opportunity for a wider
discussion of issues related to professional education and practice in
complementary medicine. The forums are aimed at health educators,
students and practitioners from orthodox, integrative and
complementary healthcare backgrounds.
