Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine (www.imconsortium.org)
would like to announce the first North American Research Conference on
Complementary and Integrative Medicine, hosted by the University of
Alberta. The Consortium, founded in 2003, is a not-for-profit
membership organization comprised of 27 major medical schools in the
U.S. and Canada that have existing research, education and clinical
programs focused on Integrative Medicine.

Call for Abstracts: DUE September 30,
2005
The Program Committee welcomes abstracts on original research relating
to complementary, alternative or integrative medicine in the six
categories listed further below. Please note that all presenters must
register for the meeting.
Call for Interactive Scientific
Sessions: DUE September 15, 2005
The Program Committee also invites proposals for the following types
of scientific sessions: symposia, featured discussions and workshops.
Sessions can include from one to six speakers and will be 1.5 or 3.0
hours in length. Please review the website

for the purpose and criteria for each session type. If you have any

Categories of Research
Investigators are invited to submit abstracts on original research in
the six categories listed below. These studies could have been
conducted in any of a variety of settings from in vitro systems to
animal models, and in human subjects ranging from pediatric to
geriatric populations. The list of examples of subject areas provided
within each category is not meant to be exhaustive. If you have any
question as to what category your abstract should be submitted under,

1. Clinical Research (Examples: adult or pediatric
clinical studies, case series, research on disease prevention,
qualitative approaches)
2. Preclinical/Basic Science (Examples: mechanistic
studies, animal experiments)
3. Health Service Research (Examples: surveys,
meta-analyses, cost effectiveness studies)
4. Research Methodology (Examples: novel designs,
non-specific effects (e.g., role of placebo))
5. Education Research* (Examples: evaluative studies
of curricula, training and competency)
6. Other* (Examples: policy development, ethical and
legal issues, quality assurance)
*Note: abstracts submitted in these categories also require data
collected as an answer to a hypothesis.
